Our Story
The Full Story
Please read below to hear about Exodus Academy's backstory, from our principal, Meg Perry:
Exodus 3:12- He said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain" (ESV).
Education has always had a soft spot in my heart. Growing up, I loved learning and expanding my knowledge. I was blessed enough to have several jobs at an early age that involved education and children, and realized I was called to dedicate my life to teaching children about Jesus. In 2021, I was fortunate enough to have a hand in beginning a private school, and I enjoyed my time there immensely. Seeing my passion and calling come to fruition gave me an ignition to serve God like never before! When that unexpectedly ended in the fall of 2023, I felt lost and unsure of what to do. Walking through a tumultuous season, I found comfort in the story of Moses. He knew what he was called to do but felt so unsure about his abilities. I did too. Though I wasn't sure how or why, I asked God to show me a way forward. The founding staff of Exodus rallied around me and my family, and prayerfully helped me and my husband launch Exodus Academy.

Giving homage to the story that taught me so much in a dark season seemed fitting. While relating to Moses' story, I was encouraged with Exodus 3 verse 12. In it, God tells Moses (after he vocalizes his doubt and uncertainty for the task that God called him to) that He will go with him, and when the task was done, Moses would return and worship God. Though the focus of Exodus 3 is usually on the verses following verse 12, I became mesmerized with the sentiment that God was giving Moses. He was saying that Moses didn't need to be scared or doubtful, because Moses was only an instrument in the hands of a God who could do anything. It was never about Moses' abilities or talents, nor was it about his mistakes or shortcomings. God simply wanted to use Moses, despite everything he had done, and remind him what a powerful God he was. Then, God says the very place that Moses is standing will become a place of worship once the task is completed. God was telling Moses the place where he felt filled with fear would later become a reminder of how God can redeem any situation. That mountain would no longer be associated with fear or self-doubt, but with provision and guidance from the Almighty.
I related to this idea, and expectantly waited for God to remind me how powerful he is, too.

God displayed his power tenfold. I was blown away by his provisions for a plan to start a new school. I found comfort in being an instrument in his plan, and allowed others to hear about what he was doing. Suddenly, a wish in my heart that only God heard became a reality. I knew that I wanted to honor the valuable lesson he was teaching me, and thus the name Exodus Academy was formed.

It is my prayer as a founder and the principal of Exodus Academy that kids who enter our building will learn the same lesson I did. I pray they will learn that no matter their past, talents (or lack of), and no matter their day-to-day circumstances, they are loved by a powerful God. The school in the white house is my mountain to come to everyday and remember the goodness and faithfulness of God. I pray that it can be theirs too one day.
